Bing! Easier online shopping, as if by magic

05 Jun 2009

Bing.com logoOnline shopping is has become increasingly popular as more products are made available at competitive prices and the consumer becomes more familiar with using price comparison websites to gain the best bargains.  Good news for all of you who are as keen on shopping online as the team here at Chichester Design; shopping is set to get a whole lot easier in Cyber Space thanks to the Microsoft Fairy Godmother waving its magic wand, Bing!

Microsoft has just announced the launch of their new search engine Bing.com. They describe their innovation as more of a “decision engine”, with a focus on helping you find the information you need to make a decision rather than just the information itself and they are using the strapline: “When it comes to decisions that matter, Bing and Decide”.

“But how is it going to make shopping online any easier!” we hear you cry. Microsoft has this to say on the nifty new addition available to web users:

“We took a new approach to go beyond search to build what we call a decision engine. With a powerful set of intuitive tools on top of a world class search service, Bing will help you make smarter, faster decisions. We included features that deliver the best results, presented in a more organized way to simplify key tasks and help you make important decisions faster.

And features like cashback, where we actually give you money back on great products, and Price Predictor, which actually tells you when to buy an airline ticket in order to help get you the best price – help you make smarter decisions, and put money back in your pocket.”

If you’re anything like me when it comes to decision making this is just what the doctor ordered. There are a number of ways that Bing.com stands out from the crowd of search engines and it has organised these into lifestyle categories, including shopping, that are significant to many of you out there:

Shopping

  • Buy stuff, get cash – it’s time to get paid. Get cashback with your purchase wherever you see the Bing Cashback sign:   Bing.com cashback logo
  • Zoom in on key features – tech specs, reviews, and prices-organized for easy viewing.
  • The best deals. No scrounging necessary – Bing puts all the important stuff on top: pics, prices, reviews, and everything else the smart shopper needs

Travel

  • Compare, decide, go – all the best deals on flights etc to wherever you want to go delivered in a single view
  • But does it have a pool? – a simple one glance view of everything you need to pick the perfect hotel
  • Enter flight number. See flight status – get the status of your flight without delay. Bing digs deep into airline websites so you don’t have to.

Health

Is your workout working? – fitness and health articles, how-to’s, and news-all displayed neatly in one place.

Reliable health expertise – find trustworthy information with ease. Bing connects you with articles and insight from authoritative health sources.

Health answers fast – Connect with authoritative info, articles, and other resources-clearly laid out for quick reference.

Local

  • Which route should you take today – red is bad, green is good. Get real-time traffic info before you head out the door.
  • Sushi you can walk to – find restaurants and services in your neighbourhood
  • Worth your time or not? – Maps, menus, and reviews – organized neatly in one place.

More

  • Get the lowdown real fast- Get fast car facts. Price, MPG, reviews, safety ratings, and more -all available at a glance.
  • Images – The picture you need and a bunch more you never knew you needed – Bing helps you quickly refine your image search and explore related categories.
  • Because clicking is too much of a commitment – Is that the BBQ recipe you’re looking for or not? Hover over search results for quick website previews.

Another interesting factor to consider is that Bing is great for mobile use, providing all you need for life on the go including maps, audio directions, traffic conditions, weather reports and local cinema listings.
