I’m looking out of my Chichester Design window at a gloriously sunny day. Is this the beginning of our long-promised “barbeque summer”? Best not bet on it. But a surer sign that summer is on its way is the unveiling of the line-up at Chichester’s Real Ale and Jazz Festival.
The festival is one of the mainstays of the local social season and has attracted some high-profile guests in the past. I’ve seen the late, great James Brown strut his stuff, the Human League, Simple Minds and Debbie Harry to name but a few. Not bad going. Katie Melua is the big attraction this year.
The festival also has a new website (www.chichester-rajf.com) for 2010, courtesy of us. The site has a brand new design; it looks great and the details on the festival are easy to find, whether you want to know who’s playing, buy tickets or find out about who’s behind it.
Among the other features, there’s a photo gallery and you can now sign up for updates on the festival. RAJF is on Twitter, you can find images on Flickr and videos on YouTube.
Talking of which, the pictures of James Brown bring back great memories. It’s quite a few years ago now but it was an incredible night. The Godfather of soul and his band seemed to play for hours, belting out all of his famous songs. I remember the marquee being jammed to the rafters, everyone entranced by Brown. I don’t think I’ll ever see many performances like that.
