A couple of the Chichester Design team, me included, attended the SCDF soiree at West Stoke House this week. I think everyone felt suitably sophisticated at the very elegant venue, which was once part of the Goodwood Estate.
Rumour has it that the current owners are off to pursue other projects and that the new proprietors will turn it back into a private residence. So, it was good to sample its rarefied atmosphere before its doors close.
The usual friendly faces were in attendance and it was good to have a chat about how the SCDF is developing. Significant changes are afoot and the marketing and PR operations are getting a major overhaul, work in which we’re involved.
We designed the SCDF website for its launch back in 2005 and have contributed to other marketing formats since. We’ll be refreshing and updating the technology and functionality behind the website in the coming months with an eye on e-commerce and site management. So, watch this space!
I also had the chance to meet some new people and it was fascinating to chat to a chap whose work involves writing obituaries for national newspapers, including the Times. I find obituaries very interesting– some peoples’ life stories are quite amazing.
One of these life stories belongs to Charles Curry, a silver medal-winning Olympic sailor and celebrated boat builder from Bosham (near Chichester) who passed away this year, aged 94. The obituary, written by the chap I met, is well worth a read.
I also got to talk to someone from Green Power, a sustainability-focused engineering company based just outside of Chichester. Projects include designing, building and racing electric cars at circuits such as Goodwood. That sounds like lots of fun.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening with the SCDF. I look forward to the next one.
