I popped round the corner to Pallant House Gallery the other evening for the private view of the Robin & Lucienne Day: Design and the Modern Interior exhibition and the designs – the furniture in particular – got me thinking about a web design project we’ve just wrapped up.
The Chichester Design team have recently completed work on a new website for Willstack Furniture Company. These guys supply all sorts of furniture for schools, offices, restaurants, football stadiums, etc., and their best seller is the CGF20 Stacking Chair – you can see it on their homepage. It’s this chair that reminded me of Robin Day’s design.
Robin Day’s Polypropylene Chair is an iconic design that has become a mass manufacturing staple – millions of chairs in this style have been produced. Willstack’s best seller is a clear descendant.
On the new Willstack website, you can see the CGF20 Stacking Chair alongside the rest of the products, with all the spec clearly accessible. However, the main addition to the site is e-commerce functionality – you can now not only choose furniture type, colour, quantity and accessories, but also buy the products online.
We also added social media marketing features so visitors can link straight through to Willstack’s Twitter account and Facebook page and sign up for useful update. We also created and designed these pages for the company.
Both e-commerce functionality and social media marketing have quickly become digital business must haves as more as more people get their opinions and purchase goods online. In today’s market, both in terms of B2C and B2B, I think it’s essential that a company has both these capabilities – just like Willstack.
