Chichester Design Plan Marketing for 2010

25 Nov 2009

CD gemstoneA few days ago I was sitting at my desk in my office – which is now separate from the boys’ office and is very creative and harmonious with posters of Hello Kitty and postcards of Sesame Street characters and alike- and Simon said “Have you thought about a marketing plan for 2010? “Marketing plan!” I hollered, “By jeepers I should really get onto that and practice what I preach!”

To be perfectly honest, as I only joined the team on a regular basis this year, Chichester Design has been quite ad hoc when it comes to marketing, up until now. We’ve mostly picked up on opportunities along the way and put most of our energies into social media and sponsorship. But, as I advise my clients all the time, you should always have a strategy in place and as part of that strategy you should have a good media mix.

So I sat down and I gave it some thought. I came to the conclusion that over the past year Chichester Design has had a fairly good mix consisting of:

Social media – blog, Twitter, Facebook, LastFM, Flickr and LinkedIn

Sponsorship – Westgate Triathlon Club and Team Iron Horse Extreme E-newsletters – special events, promotional and seasonal

Flyers – promoting new marketing services and Google AdWords Jumpstart Management service

Events – we attended TFM&A, Business Focus 09 and various SCDF and First Friday networking events

And in the coming year we’re going to do all of the above as well as focussing on:

Google AdWords – we have these ready and waiting to go live in conjunction with our new website. We will begin running these 3 days a week in the New Year.

YouTube – create a video introducing our clients to our team and services

Press Releases – create these and distribute to local and national news, press release distribution websites and other relevant media

Simon and I sat down yesterday afternoon and added a to-do list to our new project management system, Basecamp. We assigned tasks to different members of the team and set milestones so that deadlines would flag up in our calendars. Basecamp is really useful for managing ongoing projects in such a way and we have been using it to communicate within the team and with our clients on a variety of web design and marketing projects.
