Happy new year! As 2011 stretches out before us, I thought it would be a good time to look ahead at what we can expect in terms of design and marketing industry development and what you can expect from Chichester Design.
I think Google Apps is as good a place to start as any. The year ahead is set to be a big one for Google Apps for Business, as maximising budgets and achieving greater efficiency remain a major focus for businesses of all sizes. The growth is likely to be prevalent among SMEs, with working at home becoming increasingly common. I also think the expanding use of cloud computing will have a positive effect on Google Apps for Business.
From Google Apps to apps for smartphones and mobile devices: I think 2011 will see a marked shift in the use of apps – the golden age of the microapps is over and what lies ahead is greater commercial use and higher rates of charging. Tesco has been quick off the mark with the launch of the media campaign for its grocery shopping app. Interestingly, the launch was held back from before Christmas because of the upturn in iPhone sales over the festive period.
We’re expanding our apps services at Chichester Design in 2011 to enable clients to integrate this technology into their web design development and related marketing. Talking of smartphones and mobile devices and web design, it will be vital for businesses to have their website properly formatted for these smaller screens as more and more people conduct business and consume products and services in this manner.
Another big development for 2011 will be the growth of social media marketing as social media becomes a central strategy to every business; not just in marketing and PR, but also recruitment, customer service, sales, etc. Also, I think we’ll see B2B companies catch up with B2C companies in terms of social media use.
Staying with social media marketing, web videos are expected to be an essential business tool in 2011, while branding remains important – just look at Starbucks’ recent move. There will be more from Chichester Design on both of these subjects in forthcoming blogs.
The last thing I want to mention is an overhaul of the Chichester Design website. We’ve been developing new ideas for a while now (a carpenter’s house is never finished and all that) and, over the next few months, you’ll be able to see these plans come to life. I’ll keep you posted.
