Here’s a useful little letter you can send to your customers asking them for testimonials…

[Company Name] would like your help in the form of a testimonial about our services because genuine testimonials can benefit us by bolstering our credibility and boosting our sales. Testimonials are particularly effective because they are essentially trust-building and unbiased.
Some of the best testimonials are born out of mini-stories of redemption, unexpected successes and life-changing discoveries summarised in just a few short sentences.
Testimonials must be:
· Specific – focussed on one or two USPs (see below)
· Short – detailed without rambling, one-three sentences (no more than 50 words)
· Sizzling – interesting, energetic and encouraging but not OTT or gushy
· Signed – from real people in real towns with a real photo
It is important that a testimonial highlights [Company Name]’s key benefits and substantiates its claims. Therefore, it should demonstrate that one or more of the company’s USPs (Unique Selling Propositions) has been achieved, and that is what has pleased you as the customer.

* We are a long-established business
* We provide excellent client service to the [relevant sector].
Suggested prompts
If you don’t wish to create an actual quote you can use these questions as prompts to answer and we will create a testimonial for you:
· How did you here about us?
1. · When did you use our services?
2. · For what did you use our services?
3. · Did you use similar services of others before us, how did they compare?
4. · What are the most pleasing aspects about our services?
5. · How has using [Company Name] affected you/changed your life?
Example of a good testimonial:
“[Company Name] installed our commercial oven in our factory in [Place] and they did a fantastic job. The manager from the unit next door recommended them to me and what I found really refreshing was that the person I first contacted about my wiring problem was the person who came out to fix it. They were quick, efficient and I loved that personal touch.”

It is important we maintain some interaction with those of you who are willing to give us a testimonial so that we can help format it in a way that will be most beneficial to us. With this in mind, we may contact you again after a bit of tweaking to make sure that you are happy with the final testimonial before we use it.

So that explains what you want and why you want it but if it’s too much, just pick bits out you think are best suited to you and your client and start collecting those testimonials!
