Well you’re not alone! We had some difficulties when we came to activate Microsoft Office 2008 on a new iMac running Snow Leopard with a disc we bought from Solution Inc in Chichester. According to Microsoft tech support the software that comes pre-installed on Apple Macs cannot be activated with a Microsoft activation key because it’s a Digital River installation. They say you must remove the pre-installed Microsoft Office 2008 software to enable the Microsoft Office 2008 software on disk to be installed and activated.
Follow these instructions to uninstall all of the previous installation Microsoft Office 2008 software
- Quit any application that’s running
- Go to the Library folder then the Applications folder and drag the Microsoft folder to trash
- In Finder click on Go then click on Go to folder type in /var/db/receipts then drag files named with Microsoft to the trash
- Go back to the Library folder then into the Application Support folder and drag the Microsoft folder to trash
- Go back to the Library folder again and go to the Preferences folder and drag the Mircosoft folder to trash and also drag any files named with Microsoft to trash
- Empty Trash
- Now install from disk and activate with product key on back of disk sleeve.
Easy when you know how!
