I’ve been looking forward to talking about this project and now that the new website has gone live, I can spill the beans. We’ve been working with Formaplex, a leading specialist engineering company, to completely renew their corporate presence.

The design and build of a new website has been the focal point of the project and a highlight for me of this part of our work is the 3D wire-frame graphics we’ve used to demonstrate the company’s work with Formula 1 companies and elite automotive manufacturers.

The work that Formaplex carries out is very technical and one of the key challenges for us has been creating a new website that found the right balance of illustration and copy to clearly showcase what the company does. As well as the graphics we used, our photographer was busy on site getting a wide range of images.

We have also provided Formaplex with new branding, including a new logo, which can be seen across its online presence, in its
offices and factories, and on the road. We’ve created new signage, stationery, van livery and a wide range of customised workwear for the company.

Going back to the website, it is fully search engine optimised and social media optimised. Formaplex now has a presence on Twitter and Facebook, and its own blog. Our copywriter works with the company to create their posts.

This has been a great project to work on, and not just because I got to see some Formula 1 car parts up close.

So, what’s in a brand? Well, I’d say everything. Just ask the people at Apple or Ferrari. Or Gap for that matter. They spent an awful lot of money on a new logo, but consumers didn’t like it. No problem, they went back to the familiar and all-powerful original.

The moment a potential client lands on your website, picks up your brochure or looks up at your banner at an exhibition, your branding goes into action. And if you’ve got it right, it starts to earn money for you right there and then.

The impression that a business’ branding makes is critical to its success. Just look at Apple. The power of their logo is that it and the company are instantly recognisable. The logo conveys the message that the company is an industry leader whose products combine cutting-edge technology with cutting-edge design. This is the power of branding.

Ferrari is another good example. Think of Ferrari and you think of the prancing horse and motoring excellence of a level that makes the world idolise their cars. And, that prancing horse does more than sell cars: Ferrari generates almost as much revenue from its retail and licensing operations as from its cars, money which it uses to focus on making the type of cars that everyone wishes they could own.

Closer to home, innocent is a good example of excellent branding. Here’s a story of an inspired branding strategy whose simplicity and friendliness quickly cemented their ethical credentials and a lucrative bond with consumers. Notably, the power of this branding has meant that the brand has maintained much of its quirky, independent feel despite that fact that corporate behemoth Coca-Cola took a 58% stake in it earlier this year.

A well-designed brand is where every business should begin – it’s a platform for success. Having a powerful, consistent brand across all of your marketing, from websites and brochures to corporate stationery and exhibition graphics, couldn’t be more important.

A CMS-based website gives the user the independence to make changes to their website whenever and wherever they like. New products, new services, details of new staff members – all can be added easily and for free.

Simple, easy to navigate and easy to amend – I think that this kind of website is going to become the standard for SMEs everywhere. You can visit our online portfolio for more info and a look at the new Inderford website, as well as many others.

In addition to photography, we offer lots of other services that complement our web design and development, such as digital marketing, Google Adwords, Google Apps, branding, SEO, copywriting and more.

While I was travelling on my way back from meeting a client in London I read a fascinating article by Paul Sloan, founder of Destination Innovation, in February’s The Marketer and it really did make the cogs turn…

Have you ever stopped and thought about what business you are in, I mean really stopped and thought about it? Brand image is about more than what you do on the surface and more about the aims and ideas behind your products or services, their true values

Let me put this another way for you; Harley Davidson does not simply sell motorbikes. It sells the concept of freedom to middle-aged men. You see?

The issue here is that you can only start providing these intended values to your customers once you know what they are. So take a good hard look at your product or service and think about why people choose to buy from you. Think about your products or services in relation to lifestyle and experience. Are you selling a sense of freedom? Are you selling self-confidence? Are you selling security?

Once you’ve worked it out then come to Chichester Design and we’ll help you express what business you’re in clearly and creatively through strong branding, copywriting and web design. It’s all of these factors that work together to communicate who you are and what you do and that’s precisely what business we’re in. Contact us for a proposal today.

This local restaurant business has already caused a stir in the local area since its launch just last year, already winning an Observer Small Business Award and gaining an excellent reputation among South Coast foodies.

We worked with our friends at Ascender to create a no holds barred website. Ascender came up with the eye catching Field & Fork logo, consisting of a fork with sprouting leaves, which has quickly become synonymous with high quality, fresh food that has been locally sourced. The logo also supports their tag line “Field & Fork, sourcing the best food every day.”

We used this as the basis to carry the web design forward, building the website from scratch and incorporating an easy to use CMS so that Field & Fork’s Janet could update menus and business news as needed. Jeremy also included the functionality for the banner on the homepage to be updated so that Field & Fork could promote seasonal offers, in line with their branding.

We also managed to show a bit more of our creative flair with this site as our copywriter, Kate, was able to get stuck in and write some meaty copy to promote the restaurant’s Roux trained owners. Kate also used her SEO powers to give Field & Fork a chance of sliding up the search engine rankings and within weeks we had knocked Field & Fork’s competitors for the “field and fork” Google top spot down a few pegs.

Our resident photographers got happy snapping the site’s images at the Pallant House Gallery’s Restaurant opening party. There was picturesque food aplenty and it tasted just as good as it looked. Ben and Lucy did chef Sam’s beautiful culinary creations justice, I’m sure you’ll agree.

This was a particularly exciting project for us and whenever we lacked vision or energy we could just take a glimpse out of our office window at the waiting staff serving delicious lunches and cakes in the Gallery’s courtyard garden. Yep, that’s right Field & Fork is just opposite the Chichester Design office so if after reading this and you decide to check out the goods for yourself (and how can you resist?) think of us and give us a little wave.
