How will WAYN’s relaunch work during a recession?

I was taking a look at WAYN (Where Are You Now) the other day and I was a bit baffled by the message on the sales video.  It gave the impression that the target audience are a gaggle of rich kids who go online in search of buddies to join them on their latest international shopping or clubbing expeditions.  All very nice if you have the resources but who does these days? And this is surely not the brand image truly desired by any social networking site that aims to make Twitter fall off its perch, is it?

Many have relied on email campaigns to market their businesses for many years now but while these can become samey, stale and motivate few conversions, it seems that email marketing is making a comeback retro style.
